Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit to Lunenburg County Criminal History, the reasons it may be used, and the limited situations in which another party may receive it. By continuing to browse or use a feature, you accept the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its result. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

When you email us, we retain the message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers receive basic technical information when a page loads, including:

  • Page-view timestamps
  • Your device's assigned IP address
  • Browser name and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • Visited pages and time spent on them
  • The referring website, when one is reported

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand aggregate traffic, such as popular pages and common exit points. You can block cookies through browser controls, although doing so may change how some features behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Sending a search request to the selected outside provider
  • Operating the website and maintaining page speed
  • Finding and repairing technical faults
  • Measuring which pages are useful or need improvement
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The site explains where Lunenburg County records are kept and how official requests reach the sheriff, criminal courts, Virginia State Police CARE and CCRE, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal-record files.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted through a tool is governed by that provider's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices rather than this policy. Review those terms before sending a query because we do not control them.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to courts, law-enforcement offices, Virginia agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once you leave our pages, the destination's privacy policy controls the visit. Check it before providing personal information.

Some advertising partners may use their own systems to track activity across websites and select targeted ads. We do not operate that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be received by:

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Outside search providers handling a submitted query
  • Advertising networks placing material on the site
  • A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

We use standard safeguards for information in our control. No internet system is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that a breach or unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor provided data, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Rights can vary with the law that applies to you. Virginia's Freedom of Information Act, Code § 2.2-3700 et seq., governs covered public bodies, while Code § 19.2-389 controls dissemination of CCRE criminal-history information. Code § 9.1-132 separately lets a person inspect and challenge criminal-history information maintained about that person by CCRE or, for nonreportable matters, the arresting agency. Those laws do not make this private website a Virginia agency or repository. For data that we hold, you may:

  • Request deletion of your data
  • Ask what information we have about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Opt out of certain processing where applicable

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised. A new version becomes available on this page with its updated effective date, so visitors should review it from time to time.
